For some reason I am getting a strange problem with Vista SP1... It installs through the updates and then restarts... does all the steps and gets to 100% of step three. Then it just says Unable to Install Service Pack, Reverting Changes... This is really annoying because it wastes about two hours of my time and my computer is my only source of information in my dorm... I can't keep repeating this process. Any ideas?

maybe you have to do a complete reformat and install it on a clean copy of vista.. i had to install xp sp3 rc1 on a fresh install of xp (though i didn't mind, i had been meaning to repartition my disk anyway)

I'm having the same problem. It didn't work on my copy of Ultimate-32 - and I needed to format due to sever slowdowns and other performance issues anyway - so I formatted and reinstalled the OS. The newest version of the SP1 RC doesn't want to install at all. And the prerequisite updates don't work either.

Have you tried the full file (the 500mb+ one)? I had the same problem with doing it via windows update, but the standalone pack worked fine and was much quicker even including the download time. Have now uninstalled it though, just recently my computer was crashing 30 seconds after startup due to the new wan miniport (sstp) introduced with Sp1 - I hope they get this sorted out before the final release. I didn't notice much of a difference in performance after installing sp1 until I uninstalled it, now my computer feels slow and unresponsive so it's definitely worth it.

Vista installs are weird - sometimes I couldn't install a language pack - it'd revert back halfway through the install.

I'd wait for the RTM version and try again. It'd be better that way since all the problems are ironed out.

Try uninstalling your firewall. I had problems installing windows updates when i had comodo installed before i did any windows updates. It did what you are saying. After uninstalling it, the installation went smooth.

I ran the exe version of sp1 today... came back later and it said that service pack was unable to install... then gave me the error code: 0x800f082c... it even gave me a handy link thats "supposed" to take me to the microsoft webpage regarding this error... however it just pulls me up to the main page... googling the error code didnt bring up anything either... any ideas? (other than disabling firewall nizzy...)

Well if Microsoft can't help the only thing I can think of is that maybe you don't have all the prerequisite updates installed. I'd suggest you go into windows update and show hidden updates and see if there are any you've hidden and not installed. Other than that i think you'll just have to wait until the final release or do a fresh Vista install.
