Hey guys. I'm using an Inspiron 1520 and trying to install vista sp1 on it. I'm having a problem, it's not showing up in the Windows Update. I have searched the forum and many people suggest it's an issue with the sigmatel drivers well I've spent the better part of the day installing different sigmatel drivers to no avail. First I tried the latest driver listed on dell.com, restarted, still didn't show, then I tried the driver listed on the drivers cd, didn't work, I completely uninstalled the driver and had windows search for the driver still didn't work.

I don't know what to do, maybe there's another issue. I'm beginning to think a complete system reinstall would fix the problem but I really don't want to have to do that.

    Thanks,
    -Taylor

My current sigmatel driver is 6.0.6000.16386

That won't cause any problems? I mean why is windows hiding it from me? Is it doing it because it'll cause problems or because it wants to be a pain in the...

Hey all, I am having the same problem - SP1 is not showing up in Windows Update. I had installed the pre-release version of SP1 before, then uninstalled it in order to install the stand-alone version of SP1. I had some computer problems (which turned out not to be related to SP1) so I uninstalled SP1 - could this be why it's not showing up now in Windows Update, even though it was uninstalled?

Ok this is what worked for me. I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 1520 with Vista home premium 8600m gt video card and 2 gigs of ram.

The first thing I had to do was download an update for Nvidia from the windows update that was labeled as "Optional" that changed out my video driver from laptopvideo2go (custom driver that makes every game work) to a regular Nvidia driver.

Then I kept checking for new updates...sometimes it would say yes and sometimes it would say i have everything.

The other thing i had to do was to download a sigmatel driver that is labeled R167846 and that should give u a driver version of 6.10.0.5609. I just tried to find the website i grabbed it from and had no luck but i'm sure u will succeed.

After I downloaded that and restarted the computer twice, i checked for updates and there it was, finally, THE SP1 UPDATE that took me 1 1/2 days to figure out.

Oh, I had switched my update to full automatic and then I would go to the window and click on "check for updates".

I hope this helps someone...i'm returning the favor for all the help I receive from the different forums.
