Yeah, a day behind the time zone m$ uses.

They don't use "US' time schedule", because time isn't centered in the US
MS in on the west coast, so GMT -8 -
Hmm...interesting. I'm using RC-1 (I think, it shows up as "Microsoft Service Pack" and I'm using Vista...) and I haven't really seen any crazy performance/speed increases. We can only hope.
-
It is still Feb 3 in the US.
I know...but I wasn't sure if they used the NYSE time or the hq time. So I just said US to purposely be vague
-
go out of the shadows, sp1..
Well i am actually about to post a thread about blue screen of death, that has just keep on appearing recently in my vista home premium; 1 month old hp laptop. Hearing about the vista sp1 might be an answer in disguise... There might be a possibility for me, a patient user, to become a vista hater or in another term..a victim?? for that certain reason.. others should understand and not hate the "vista haters" hehe.. its just that when you're having a bsod unexpectedly in a new laptop w/ vista, you can't handle it.. bsod sucks. I'm looking forward for the sp1 to fix this one great 'blue' blessing from Lord Gates. -
do you have turbo memory? or do you use a SD card for the readyboost or readydrive?
-
SP1 isn't likely going to be a magical cure for most people... it is a compilation of permanent hotfixes for all the big bugs they found with release and the expertise of people that aren't on their payrolls.
Most of what SP1 brings is what the well-experienced users already have.
Eug, more than likely your BSoD has nothing to do with Vista specifically...
Drivers are the most common cause. More than likely your "fix" is on the HP site, or in uninstalling something HP thought you just HAD to have.
This doesn't mean SP1 won't necessarily be beneficial... just that it won't be a magic bullet. In your case it is highly unlikely. -
I do use a 2GB usb flash drive for readyboost.. got any solution for bsod?
-----
kernalpanic: well i appreciate for clearing things up. I've read and known the issue about drivers.. but i dunno where to start. I'm curious about the thing you said ""More than likely your "fix" is on the HP site, or in uninstalling something HP thought you just HAD to have."" -
ahhh...there we go...here's your solution
go in to power management by right clicking the battery icon...go under advanced power management and go to hard drive
you want to disable the hybrid hard disc power saving feature...make sure you switch it for all 3 default power profiles vista comes with...and you're good to go!
Basically, if you use intel turbo mem, or use a sdhc as a readyboost, you technically have a "hybrid harddrive" one that contains a the HD portion and flash memory together
Please keep me posted on how this works out for you...I hope you can finally enjoy your comp again without worrying about those stupid bsod's -
that is true in most cases..but with the hybrid disc...vista is at fault for not properly executing the power saving option while on hybrid disc
however, I must say a BSOD is better than freeze...since with a freeze you have no clue what happened...at least with a BSOD..you can get your original state of work back and it will record the bsod and specifications in Windows Problems and Reports -
I've explored power settings and this is what I ended up getting into:
can't seem to find the hybrid hard disc power saving feature. I just saw "hybrid sleep" under sleep options.
thanks for your help -
you need to install the latest Intel Matrix Storage Driver for that hybrid power disc option to even come up...here's the link
I had the same issue as you earlier
...I didn't install that matrix thingy and I couldn't figure out how to turn off the hybrid power saving

And it was 4th of February here, so am I not a day ahead?
-
you're missing the point...msft doesn't care where you are..they go by their local time, which is in the US
-
Windows update is going to be slow tomorrow..
-
No, thats not how they do it. They aren't dumb. They are not going to let all of the windows vista users access to it at the same time. They do it in phases. A certain percentage are able to get it every day until everyone has it. But honestly, i don't think its coming out today.
-
Hybrid sleep option is there below the sleep tab ...
-
well as you said your self...a certain percentage will be the lucky first few to get it and it could be today!..their updates have been around 6pm central time for me in the past on the day of
-
Hehe I didn't mean it that way. (Almost) any time Microsoft releases a large update, Microsoft update is pretty slow even though not everybody gets it at once. From what I understand, SP1 isn't going to be a tiny file.
-
I just checked right now, haven't got it yet.
-
Maybe they aren't going to release it today? Maybe they were just rumors?
-
Hopefully not, and they release it soon. All we can do is wait.
-
Me neither.
-
Maybe we're just early. We should wait until the day is done to complain.
-
Any coincidence but I have received sp1 for office 2007!!
-
That's been out for a while.
-
Heh, SP1 for Office '07 has been out since 12/8/07, so it is even a slightly stranger coincidence that you're just getting it now.
I'm eagerly waiting Vista SP1, but as with many others, I have no great qualms with my install in its current state. -
And wait I will...
-
Well I am in the uk and I’ve just received it now through windows update, well two days ago, maybe there will be a big lag for all of us waiting for sp1.
I know you can get vista sp1 through Microsoft’s website, but just no through update, seems really complex through the website, id just rather id do it through update, the proper way!! -
Are you talking about receiving SP1 for Office 2007 or for Vista?
-
Yes I was going to edit that, but I couldn’t be bothered, yep it’s just sp1 for office!
This is the only link i know of for vista sp1! http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2FA54665-7716-47D9-B9B7-5CFDF71198CB&displaylang=en -
How to do it through the website???
-
That's just another release candidate
-
I am starting to lose hope. I think this was a false rumor. I don't think that MS would release it later than this?
-
