NOTE: Use it only on final version of SP2
NOTE2: Use it only when you are 100% satisfied, and won't have to uninstall SP2 for any reason, after running Clean-Up tool you can't uninstall service pack.
NOTE3: Clean-up tool removes any left over RTM, SP1 files
new cleanup tool is called compcln.exe
used to be called Vsp1cln.exe in SP1
Directions
1) Open run command
2) type the compcln.exe, run the clean-up tool
3) read on screen directions
Vista SP2 availability: RTM-escrow build has been released to testers. Unless testers in these final hours find a HUGE show stooping bug, this will be the final version.

Final version is not out yet.
-
RTM is the final version, just waiting for it to be released.
F.Y.I. No one should be downloading ANY leaked software this week, traditionally and universally a very stupid thing. April 1st. -
sp2 is at RTM-escrow stage, which is almost the final step.
only thing that would stop RTM-escrow becoming final RTM is a huge show stopping bug. -

Yes, but I think the point that coolguy is trying to make is that even the RTM version is a "beta" with a fixed shelf life and will need to be uninstalled once it expires so that you can install the actual release version. Using this tool would prevent that uninstall leaving a user no recourse except to revert to an old image, a system restore point or a reinstall of the OS.

that why i put this right on top
and this right under it
it is serlf explanatory, this is just heads up, SP2 will be out soon early or mid april -
RTM means there is no watermark and no expiration as long as its on a legit system, hence unless something catastrophic happens that is it.

Well it is self explanatory to you and me but this quote might have thrown a few newbies for a loop:
In particular the part that I made bold. You know what RTM-escrow means, I know what it means and coolyguy does too. But someone who doesn't know, MIGHT have interpreted this to be "oh this RTM is the final version, I installed it, I like it, I have no need to ever uninstall it, I'll run the cleanup" and then in a few weeks discover "I'm screwed".
Trust me, you can never be too careful with how you word these sorts of things. No need to take offense from what coolguy or I were trying to clarify for OTHERS who might stumble upon this thread.

This is what I thought exactly.

RTM Escrow build - RTM final - RTW.
What RTM are you talking about? -
RTM
The term “release to manufacturing” or “release to marketing” (both abbreviated RTM) - also known as "going gold" - is used to indicate that the software has met a defined quality level and is ready for mass distribution either by electronic means or by physical media. The term does NOT define the delivery mechanism, it only states that the quality is sufficient for mass distribution. The deliverable from the engineering organization is usually in the form of a gold master CD used for duplication or to produce the image for the web.
In most if not all cases, RTM happens prior to general availability (GA) where the product is released to the public.

rtm escrow is USUALLY the same as the real rtm. but not always. rtm escrow is the build directly before the final rtm release
