I don't see it posted anywhere, but MS has just released Vista SP RC.

Thanks for the heads up. Will expect RTM
soon.
-
no 64bit ?
-
Does this come with the annoying watermark?
-
im using it now, thers no watermark, there is a x64 version, the system seems more snappier and responsive, it feels like my old xp and that ran pretty quickly
-
no link?
-
64 Bit link: http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/...A3-4B2C-4F1C-8B3E-DE376FDB1DE8&displaylang=en
Too lazy to scroll down the first link? LOL...
-
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx
there you go a link for all theres also a link for server 2008 sp2 as well -
lol yea Lol rap +
-
Sweet...thanks!!!
Also, I would recommend scrolling down and downloading the ISO, instead of the .exe, and burning it, to make it easier to install on other computers. DKW, but I like hard copies...bigger download, but longer lasting/harder to delete...
FWIW... -
I'd like to install this, but do not want to uninstall and re-install when the final SP2 is released.
-
I'm downloading as of right now, only 60.9mb through Windows update. sweet
-
I had uninstalled the original beta, and it was quite painless.
-
Speaking of WU, I hope that this will fix my Updating issues...or else, my vista disk is going to do a stunt stand in for a clay pigeon...
Does SP2 contain SP1? If it does, I am about to just do a clean install and start over...
N/M, my install disk is SP1...disregard last question... -
I don't believe you can install SP2 without SP1 already onboard.
Has anyone been able to slipstream SP2 into their install disk? Is it the same process as for Windows XP? -
done sweet
-
Okay, I am getting annoyed...SP2 won't install, informs me that some system components that it requires are missing...couple more attempts, and it's Freshinstallville for me...Population: One...
Edit: I have SP1 installed, and all important updates save for the .net SP that refuses to install properly. Have been trying that MFer for four days now...about to go back to XP...which will suck, I have fallen in love with some features of Vista... -
then y i have a watermark

sp2 down and installing..
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
why do you go back to xp then? just because something doesn't work doesn't mean your os doesn't work.. and if you reinstall, how about reinstalling vista instead, do the update gallore with sp1 and 2, and then see if the problem's still there before setting up all the rest? -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
It doesn't install here. ERROR_INVALID_DATA(0x8007000d).
It tries to download windows6.0-kb948465-x86.cab and at around 50% it stops.
I'd guess i have to redownload?
redownloaded, now it installs..
Installed, works flawlessly. Feels a little more snappy, nice. Byebye Win7 (i like the changes under the hood, i don't like the ui changes and the uac changes.. a mixed bag.. vista works perfect, no mixed bag..) -
If updates designed for the OS don't work, and MS doesn't know why, then the OS has issues.
Anyway, I never said that I was about to reinstall XP, I said I would if another install of Vista didn't work, because I am getting ill with failed updates. I have wasted twenty+ hours in the last week fvcking around waiting for updates to configure, then waiting again as changes are reverted...MS doesn't even know what the issue is, but it's the newest .net SP update that is giving the issues...
I always update before customizing a fresh install... -

You really expect the update to work in every situation on every of the millions of systems out there?
But it's still strange, why it doesn't work.. But i guess thats why they don't put it on windows update yet. I guess they will test out and send pre-fixes like they did for sp1 on vista and sp3 on xp. They just can't know everything. -
It's not that this SP won't install that bothers me, it's the ones that have been out for awhile that won't go that bother me...and their (MS) inability to figure out why not for those of us that it affects...a couple that won't go are security updates, too...
-

have you actually contacted them and worked with them to fix the problem? they can't really fix out of nowhere (and won't, if you're a lonely incident, as they have much more spread issues to fix).
but anyways, i hope a reinstall will fix it.. i'd love to play around with it for hours trying to fix it manually..
you pay me the ticket to america?
-
I have, and have also found numerous TechNet instances of this problem...they are clueless, and their "fix" is to clean install and try again...then what if that doesn't work???...this is my school computer, so I really don't have the time to keep messing with this...almost willing to buy you a ticket...

I should go on a turney then. Traveling the US, fixing the myth about Vista-is-bad and fixing problem while doing so..
-
Finally got my updates done...two more hours with MS, and let them have my desktop...finally got a tech that knew what he was doing...still no sp2, though...no support for betas...
-
Here is the patch which will allow to get sp2 via Windows update

Just found that right before you posted. Installing now...fingers crossed...
Also, MS notes that the watermark may appear after second reboot... -

whats new in sp3?
-
What i have had vista SP2 for months now???? Well RC but still
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
it's not yet the real version (still desktop branding and all)
-
You have the earlier beta. RC wasn't released to anyone until recently.
-
When the SP2 final comes out. Will I get that in windows update or will I have to download it?
I also seemed to have gained some hard drive space after installing SP2, anyone else experience that? -
Can you install over SP2 beta?
-
You can get it via Windows Update, but it probably won't show up until after you uninstall the RC version.
I gained some HD space too. Very strange. I think it may have removed all system restore files except for that last one. -
I'm fairly certain it has to be uninstalled first.
-
Got it installed everything running good,i aslo have more HD space, went from 32gigs to 42.5gigs,ill take that, anyway i notice browsing seems better other than that ill have to give it some more time.....
-
It actually removes all of them, per Microsoft. But you were right, that is exactly why your HD space came back.
-
Exactly right. And then when the RTM comes out, you will have to uninstall this one.
-
I wrote all about it in a thread of mine. Had to remove it due to poor HDD performance.
-
Vista 64 seems a little snappier...don't believe I uninstalled the RC1 of SP1....?
EDIT: HD space increased also....and the watermark appeared....no biggie, if the final doesn't uninstall the RC, it's easy. -
anyone got a screen shot of the water mark? i want to try it, but i don't really want the water mark depending on how bad it is.
-
Here you go.

I haven't seen any of the issues you describe with the 32bit bit of RC1. HDD, USB and WiFi are all fine on my system.
-
Is this the BETA version?
-
It's a beta, but it's the "release candidate" beta. It's not the same as the version released a few months ago.
-
Can you post some HD Tune tests? Every site reviewing SP2 RC1 is in agreement with me on both x86 and x64.
