So I was just browsing a tweak guide and I noticed that it mentioned changing the WaitToKillServiceTimeout entry to 5000, WaitToKillAppTimeout to 5000 and HungAppTimeout to 5000. Now i've found the WaitToKillServiceTimeOut but I can't for the life of me find the other two entries, i've looked in HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop and it's not there, aswell as done a search in the entire registry (using ctrl+f)

Is my registry corrupt? (I only did a fresh install 2 days ago) or am i totally overlooking something?

Any help will really be appreciated, thanks

i dont think for the fatser shutdown you have to change the other entries than the first one. infact i too cant find both in my registry. So i think nothing is wrong with your system

And I suggest not messing with that shutdown time too much (Check Les' sticky here in the Windows OS forum). He gives you the tip, but also mentions the need of time for _Vista to shut down the processes and similar. Cheers.

Those keys do not exist in Vista--I do not believe adding them back has any effect

I agree with Fonduekid here. I'd also take it a step further in saying that I don't think extensive tweaking is smart, nor do I believe it truly has the desired (and advertised) effect. With Vista, I've found that more RAM (and maybe Readyboost) seems to do the trick. I turned off Superfetch and turned it back on after noticing no real enhancement in performance (I might be opening a can of worms with this statement).

Of course, performance (and the statements above) depends on a lot of other things, such as, how many programs you have installed vs. a clean install, defragging, hard drive speed and space left, etc. However, as I mentioned before, more RAM usually does the trick. There's an article floating around where the experts debunk a lot of the myths surrounding tweaking and it's impact on performance. If I can find it, I'll come back and post it.

I say take the whole tweaking argument with a grain of salt, but if you choose to tweak, be smart about which tweaks you choose to do and tweak at your own risk.
