Hi
I've got this worrying problem along with a few of my friends, when we try to shutdown it goes through everything normally i.e log off -> shutdown etc...
but then at the very end just before the power goes off. It freezes and the back light goes off but the shutdown screen is still on the screen and the power is on.
I have a sager np2090 shown my sig and one of friends has a desktop with
q6600 2.66ghz
4gb ram ddr3 1600mhz
nvidia 260 gtx
1kw psu
And we both run vista home premium.
so as you can see they are very different systems but have the same problem.

Are you unplugging any devices before shutdown without "safe removal"?
I know my Vaio doesn't shut down if I just unplug the USB Hubs with some HDDs on them....
If I use safely remove hardware it works.
What exactly do you do before the problem occurs, is there a pattern to it? Does it always occur? -
I dont just unplug anything from the USB and if I do... it's via the safely remove harware. It doesnt seem to have pattern, no matter what we do it just happens. Yesterday I was on tf2 and I quit to shutdown and it happned and my friend was browsing the web before shutdown and the same thing happend.
It always occurs for me when i'm running on batteries and never on mains, and my firend has it 90% of the time when shutting down. -
For you it may be that some hardware is preventing shudown...
For your friend - sorry, no clue
But do monitor your activity, specific programmes, etc.
PS: Simple test. Start your computer, let it load fully, then shut it down - if it shuts down without any problems, then your Windows instal and drivers are per se fine. -
lordmail: by any chance are you running a wireless mouse and what are you using for antivirus, trust me this might make sense.
