    Hi,

    I bought a VX2S ASUS computer - Vista Ultimate, Duo-Core2, Nvidia 8600mGT card, 2gig ram etc..

It has a major problem. When it goes to sleep or if the monitor shuts off after inactivity - the monitor or computer won't wakeup. I can't tell because the screen is totally dead.

Worse, if I have hibernation set on- when the battery is low - it will save the settings and when I switch it on later after I plug it into a power socket- the screen will still be dead.

The only solution for this mess is to physically turn off the power button on the computer and restart it. However, physically turning off the computer once corrupted Vista and I had to do a Windows Repair - because Asus do not provide an installation disk just a rescue disk which overrides all on C drive - I had to borrow my friends Vista CD to repair it.

To prevent this problem from occuring, I switched my notebook to a high power setting - so that it does not go to sleep or hibernate. I also have to mindful to physically turn off the power to avoid the computer turning itself off automatically when its on battery.

Has there been a patch for this problem yet?

The helpdesk for Asus were hopeless and I'm amazed they never realized there was such a problem.

btw you can set it on the Advanced Power Options so it shuts down instead of sleep or hibernate when its low on battery.

SP1 or latest updates might solve this issue

This issue may not be fixed with SP1--it wasn't on my notebook. The primary screen would not come back on after sleep, no matter what I did. Secondary sceens were not a problem. It's back to eXPlicative because of this problem.

I had a similar problem with XP on my e1705 - I fixed it by using video drivers from Laptop2Go. Perhaps using a non-Asus video driver will solve your problem.
