    Howdy,

So, I just got my wife a new Gateway T-6836...which I must say I am pretty pleased with, since I only spent ~$630 total (specs at link):
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...t&cp=1&id=1211587728253#tabbed-specifications

Now, I noticed immediately that her laptop resumes from sleep RIDICULOUSLY faster than my Vostro (Specs below)...honestly, I thought that her laptop never turned off b/c it resumed so instantly...and now I am jealous :D .

Just wondering if there is any way I can get my laptop to resume faster. I have become accustomed to waiting for my laptop to fully wake up for the 5-10s...the most annoying part is that my desktop shows up rather quickly, but I cannot control my mouse until it's done doing whatever it's doing.

    Any clues?

Just a guess on my part, but it would appear to me as though her notebook is on a special power plan (usually added by manufacturers) that doesn't put all her components to sleep allowing for a faster resume. Check her power plan by clicking on her battery icon. If its not on power saver, balanced, or high performance, then it is not a default vista power plan as yours might be.

Make sure you have SP1 installed.

And make sure both laptops are really entering the sleep state rather than some other state like hibernate or disabled display. If you sleep by choosing

But otherwise... it could be your mouse driver and/or mouse takes longer to wake up than hers. Try using the same mouse and mouse driver.

Other drivers could also take longer to resume (display driver, etc.), I guess.

My Latitude D630 takes about 5 seconds to resume from sleep. But... my wireless mouse goes to sleep if it hasn't been used in a while... so that can take another 5 seconds or so to wake up.

Yeah, it sounds like it's gotta be something hardware-related. The only material difference b/t our lappies is that I'm running Vista Ultimate & she Home Premium (both x64), and the fact that mine is a Dell & hers a Gateway.

We're both on the High Performance plan, and I'm pretty sure it's going to sleep (the 2.5 hour battery was at ~100% after several hours of the lid being down).

Well then try opening both your power plan's advanced menus and compare them one by one to each other and see what is different.
