When ever i bring up the windows snipping tool, it takes 45 SECS to open.. About 15 secs in to the 45, it will lock up the whole computer, and to the point i can not even move the mouse pointer, and the computer will beep... then that is how it stays till the 45sec mark.... This windows snipping tool is such a small program... whats up? once it is open, no problems, and everything works..

That's strange, I don't know what is your memory utilization but is the only thing I can think is creating such a lag.

Do you have the "Tablet PC Input Service" disabled by any chance? It is required for the snipping tool.
Gary -
Thanks for the replys. I dont think i have it disabled.. How would i tell, i never use that program.. -
1. Press Start/Control Panel/Classic View and select Programs and Features;
2. Choose 'Turn Windows Features On and Off;
3. Tablet PC Optional Components -
control panel > administrative tools > services >tablet pc input service
I have mine set to automatic -
Or just hit the windows key and type services and hit enter
Edit, i have mine set to disabled and i use the program all the time and it works fine. -

But how long does it take to start the snipping tool after a reboot? For me it took 30-45 seconds with the service diabled. So I turned it back on. It appears to consume zero CPU until the snipping tool is started (as show in Process Explorer).
Gary -
No, you don't Gary!
I've been using the Sniping Tool with that service disabled.

I have had it work for a while without the service, but I have also had strange experiences like VERY slow startup, odd error messages with it turned off. YMMV.
Gary -
I've had no problems of any sort with it whatsoever.

I didn't either when I first turned it off, except it was VERY slow to load the first time I used it after each reboot. But lately I have had it act very oddly, slow, cryptic error messages etc. So, I turned the service back on. Do you have it set to manual or disabled?
Gary -
I have it set on disabled. It starts as soon as it should, and is working properly.

Does the snipping tool come up quickly the first time you use it after a reboot?
Gary -
I will surely answer that when I do a reboot. Right now I have many applications running, not to mention I'm watching The Sixth Sense (on a break right now).

I had the same problem on the original Vista Premium that came with the HP laptop, installing SP1 made it worse. The problem was with the HP software, I don't remember the exact program. Reinstalling the HP program didn't help, I had to remove it then the Snipping tool worked correctly.
I found the problem by using the system configuration utility (clean boot, selective startup), help is available in the utility for this. -
Could it be because you have some of the advanced feature on, like encryption or compression?

Yes, it does. I rebooted and quickly opened it. It opened instantaneously.
-
Hey Silas have you heard who has my shirt?
-
It is near instant.
-
Read the PM I sent you.
-
Gary it might be because you have the service set on "diabled"!
Try setting it to "Disabled"!
-
I ran into this exact same issue, and fixed it by disabling HP QuickPlay.
See this thread for more information. -
I have no idea. I did what a couple of you said to do, and no luck... if i bring up the tablet center, that does the same thing, 45 secs to load, locks computer... blah, but once it is open, the snipping tool opens instant..
-
I actually can't even find my snipping tool. Does anyone know where it may have disappeared to?
-
NICE!, just went to the MSCONFIG/STARTUP and disabled HP quick play... restated, Holy, the computer rebooted so much faster, loads quicker, and the snipping tool now comes up instant... What is the Quick play? The blue volume buttons still works, even the qickplay led button works.... HUH!?
-
Congratz on getting yours to work, but i have the same problem as yours only that im not using hp but dell, in that case what should i do?
-
Do you have DELL QuickSet installed?
-
Yes i do. Wt about it?
-
Try uninstalling it, and then see if there is any problems with the Sniping Tool.
-
