The stand alone package is the the post beta, pre release RC version. This update is remarkable!!This means SP1 is about to be released any day now

If the Sp1 is not updating even with the standalone package then you might have the same problem i do... when i was doing updates it was going through all the way... at the end it would say updates failed and would revert changes... unfortunately i didnt find a solution to that so if you get an error again with the standalone package you should probably just wait for the public release of SP1

I havent here any date about the SP1 release.

I got that error when I installed SP1 over my vesion of Vista which came with my VAIO laptop (OEM Business).
But then I formatted and did a clean install of the retail version of Vista Business using the same CD Key that I was using and it installed just fine! -

I believe SP1 is releasing on Feb 15th. Engadget is my source

I would guess that you should just keep looking forward to the next Tuesday. Microsoft traditionally releases their updates on Tuesdays, usually only once a month. That said, the 15th is a Friday.

So why can't Microsoft make SP1 install over the RC version?
