For some reason after a while the taskbar shift everything to the left (even off the screen sometimes). Also all the quick launch icons fade out and reappear if i try to click on them but as soon as i drag away they are gone again. My girlfriends laptop does the same. Both on windows vista premium. It can be solves temporarily by restarting explorer however this shifts all my desktop stuff around. Any ideas on how to fix this?

What laptop(s) do you have, what third party software is installed, what hardware is installed, what have you tweaked, etc? Have you scanned for viruses, spyware, adware, etc?

Well i have an xps m1530 : 2ghz dual core 2, 2gb ram, nvidia geforce 8600gt. No viruses or anything like that. No tweaking. Its happened before i installed very much so doubt that was it. Really strange that my girlfriend laptop does the same. Dont know the make of hers she got given it by her uni.

So, you have always had this problem on your laptop? It didn't just start happening one day, out of the blue? You didn't install any application or driver?

Its been happening pretty much from day one. I have searched the problem and it seems relatively common, but no solution really.

Have you checked the Dell forums, or posted your question there? Have you opened a trouble ticket with Dell tech support?

What OS do you use, XP or Vista?

Vista premium 32 bit. I have emailed Dell because im having an issue with my touchpad as well (keeps becoming unresponsive when i close and reopen the lid of my laptop). But im not holding my breath for a response because it usually takes ages.

    i would first try:
. to update the graphic driver within device manager (and automatic)
. reset the display properties (making some changes to resolution and back to previous values, and click apply) -

    cheers ...

I would either call them or use the online chat feature. Email does take a long time. The best time to call/chat is first thing in the morning.

    Good luck.
