Hi all,
I have been having a problem with my time in Vista Ultimate x64. This morning was the third time in about a month that I woke up to find that my time was wrong. Whenever it happens, I notice that it's usually off by a couple of hours (usually about 3 or 4). For example, I just signed on and my clock was saying it was 5:50am when it was actually 8:50am. Does anyone know why this is occurring?

When this happens does Vista show a different time to the BIOS? If not then I doubt it is anything to do with Vista and would more likely to be a hardware problem. The only way I can think it being Vista is if it is always changed by exactly hours, then I guess it could be a corrupt file storing your regional settings, is the time zone still correct?

I have not checked the BIOS, but I will the next time it happens. The only thing that leads me to believe it's not the BIOS is I dual-boot and the time in XP is never wrong. I have not once had this problem when I logged into the XP partition. The time zone is always correct. The time is just usually off by 3 or so hours.

I also want to say that it's probably the regional settings; especially if the time is off by exact hours and not minutes.

I checked that and the regional setting is correct. I'm glad to report that I have not had the problem occur in the last few days. I'll continue to check and see if it happens again.

For your initial problem, make sure the time zone is correct, that's what will change the time, not the regional settings. To change the time zone, right-click on the clock, and then choose Adjust Date/Time from the menu.
By default, Windows will update your time automatically according to the time zone you set. If you want to use your own time and don't need auto update, you can disable this option by right-clicking on the clock, and then choose Adjust Date/Time from the menu, then Internet Time and Change Settings, then uncheck the box for "Synchronize with an Internet time server". -
I will definitely look into this, Stewie. To my knowledge, my time zone settings were already correct, but maybe I'm mistaking. I'll take another look.

If you are occasionally syncing with a time server, maybe IT has incorrect time zone settings!

No, I'm not. This is my home PC and I do nothing with servers. However, we did have this exact problem at my last place of employment, so it's interesting that you mention it. They were notorious for having the wrong time on their machines.

Oops, sorry, I was thinking time zone was in regional settings for some reason. Thanks for the catch.
