After uninstalling the RC1, I tried installing the RTM one but I just kept failing with unknown error...what should I do?
[I really hate formatting it as I need it 24/7]

VERY useful suggestion, THANKS
-
I could be wrong, but you're probably not a manufacturer so you probably have not been given a copy of SP1 from Microsoft yet, so, as many other people in this forum have been doing, you probably are trying to obtain SP1 RTM version in a way Microsoft didn't intend for you (be it a registry hack or whatever).
SP1 will be released to consumers soon enough via Windows Update. I suggest waiting until then to update it.
Back to your question..
The only other suggestions I have right now are
1. Clicking the "Get Help" link
2. There are 2 required updates for SP1. They were posted on another thread. I'll look for them and post back here so you can check to see if they've been installed.
EDIT: Here they are. -
Yes I admit that I use those treaks to try getting the SP1.
To your suggestions, the "Get Help" link showed a lot but I could find something pinpoint to my problem. For those prereq, I installed them already. -
Honestly, I suggest waiting for it to be released publicly by Microsoft. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". -
The reason you cannot install is because you had a beta SP1.
Even if you uninstalled it.
Also, it might not work if you have an OEM vista, example. On the version of Vista that SONY gives me preinstalled on my laptop, i cannot install it. coz it's apparentely missing some components.
so i hard to format and do a clean install.
Im not planning any longer to get it from microsoft as this IS THE FINAL VERSION GUYS and it runs perfect super fast system!!! -
I'm sorry but I said in the first post saying that my situation doesn't allow me to do a clean install AGAIN as I need it 24/7 for my school work+alpha.
So I got no hope til mid March, right?
btw, though I installed the EN version of Vista, I changed the system settings to Japanese. Doees this matter? -
even then it might not work dude. coz what u have no IS the final version
-
-
true that. then u have the support
I am the type of d00d who can't wait though -
Okay so my problem is now fixed by installing from standalone package. SP1 rocks!
-
stand alone package? how u get? pm me can?
-
alexzeon, that can be caused (your problem with the update not installing) by disabling a Windows service or not allowing it to start (Windows Update needs COM+ Event System and Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
