Yeah so I ordered my laptop with Vista Ultimate and I got to say I am pretty disappointed. This isn't because of any stability issues with the OS but simply because I thought ultimate cost a hundred odd dollars more then home or business would include more than just a moving wallpaper and a extra card game. The package didn't even include different start up paper or unique themes/tones. Microsoft website made it appear as I would getting many extras, but in the end nothing real special other than the exuberant cost. When I emailed Microsoft on how to get more applications other than the few on the updates page they told me that they would be releasing more stuff; a year and half later I still don't have any new software. Anyone else get the same feeling of disapointment as me?

yeah, that's why I used the 30day trial with the vista anytime upgrade disc. Home Premium is good enough for me. + you can get the moving wallpaper in other vista flavors aswell.
-
Well.....it was originally "supposed" to include more than what you are getting. Microsoft dropped the ball on most of the extras.
-
yea i switched from home to ultimate because it was free i cant tell a single difference. i know what the differences are but i haven't used a single one of them,
-
-
The biggest difference is that most Ultimate is 64-bit.
-
mine Acer OEM Ultimate is 32 bit... and yah there is nothing special. -
I'm using Home Premium 64-bit
-
yea when i went from home premium to ultimate i switched to 64 bit

Ultimate is Home Prenium & Business altogether. The reason why it cost $100 more when you configured is because you got Home Preium OEM + Ultimate Upgrade and not ultimate OEM.
Home prenium OEM is $110, business $145 and ultimate $175 -
Starter is not available in x64.

if you did about.... hmmmm.... 2 mins of research... you would have found the 125 million pages on this topic that have existed for a looooong time.
but you didn't
so you spent more money than you should have
who's fault is that? -
Have you tried complete PC backup in Vista Ultimate yet? I think it worth extra money that you paid for because you don't need Norton Ghost or imaging software. You can join the domain on Ultimate edition not Home Premium. Yes, Business version can join the domain, but it doesn't have Windows Media Center.
You also have secure remote desktop while Home Premium doesn't offered this feature. I can connect to my PC from 75 miles away without any problems with new improve remote desktop feature. You think it still doesn't worth the money? -
I'll be purchasing Ultimate SP1 once it's released to DVD Retail.
-
why?
(10 chars) -
Because he may want Media Center features and some of the Business features.
-
ok, but just a warning if you don't think it was worth the money after installing it, don't complain that you didnt read this thread.
-
There's really isn't any significant differences except for some features. It's a x64 so it's supposedly run faster WITH x64 softwares but alas not too many available. It does fly with 4gb RAM I admit. The like the eye candy since if you're going to work on you rig for a long time it breaks the monotony. Love the included games.
-
i know the exclusive are the dreamscene and there are 1 or 2 more options to choose from when you set wallpaper background.
-
Theres alot of under the hood benefits, such as networking additions etc.
-
I have to admit that all this talk of the different versions of Vista or XP kills me. Its so annoying. Why not just come out with one version that includes everything, kinda like OS X (I know that heresy to some of you). Seriously, Microsoft is milking their "monopoly" on the industry for all its worth. Its so annoying trying to figure out which does what and so on and so forth. I hate it.

They could, but you would pay full price.
Since MACs are so overpriced, you do get all, but you do pay for all too. -
