Hi has anyone figured out a fix for the problem where the USB Mouse LED is still on even when the system is in standby?

I'm running Vista U 32 on my T60. I bought a Saitek Laptop mouse that has LED. Looks pretty cool, anyway I put the laptop in standby mode and the mouse LED's are still on as if the laptop was not in a sleep state. I literally have to unplug the mouse to turn it off.

    Any ideas?

p.s. the USB ports are not in sleep mode mode as I just pressed the right mouse button and the laptop came out of standby mode, weird.

The way I understand it is that some systems turn off their USB ports at sleep, and some don't. My One doesn't, and I can wake it up with my Nano.

The GF's Aspire5720 does turn them off, and you have to hit a control button or the power button to wake hers up.

    It might be normal behavior.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know it's Vista because when I was using XP Pro all the USB ports went to sleep in standby. With Vista the USB ports are not turned off. It could be an SP1 problem because I didn't try it pre SP1.

Check in the advanced power settings as there may be an option there for whether or not to set the USB to sleep mode.

Thanks Dragon, I reinstalled XP Pro because I need my computer back for work. When it's time to reinstall Vista i'll check for that. :)

I tried Vista U again on my T60 as well as my Vostro 1700 and the USB ports still have power when it goes into sleep mode. Hopefully W7 will fix this problem as it's not a problem with XP.

Actually it is not Vista per se, it is the drivers. If you go into device manager and select a USB host controller entry and then select properties you will find a details tab. Scroll down in the list box and find "Power Data". You can then find the power states and mapping of device states to each one. There are a couple of great articles that explain the power states and device states.

I am still trying to figure out how to modify these.
