Im ordering an HP dv9500t (US) with Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) with 2GB of RAM. now i know that you cant go higher than 3GB with 32 bit OS, so if later I want to upgrade to 4GB, can i do this... Order my HP with Home Premium 32, but get a recovery CD with it for Vista Ultamite 64 (There is an option there for that), when it comes time to upgrade, can I do that? Will it work? Thanks in advance![]()

That goes against the license, and is quite frankly illegal. If you purchase home premium at the time you order the computer, that's what you're (legally) stuck with, unless you purchase a retail copy.
Why not just order vista ultimate now? Oh wait, you're trying to save money. -
The recovery disc selected has to match the os version you configured.......

If you have Home Premium and also order a 64 bit Anytime Upgrade DVD (available from compusa or microsoft, see the clean install guide in my sig), you can use the Anytime upgrade to install the 64 bit version of Home Premium (not Ultimate). You have the license for home premium, but that does not bind you to 32 or 64 bit.

yeah your license key wont work, and HP'll most likely cancel that recovery disk order.
-
Cant you do it anyway though? If HP allows it, it cant be illegal.
-
You don't have a license for Ultimate. It will lock down in 30 days.

So, i guess you cant get away with it then... oh well, how much does Vista Ultamite usually cost legally?
