I already wrote about it in Sony forum but without any response, so I'll try it here![]()
Till the end of the year I'm planning to get new notebook (most probably Sony Vaio Z series) and I'll get it with the Japanese OS, even though I'm not native Japanese nor English...for now, I'm using Japanese OS on my old Vaio and it's pretty fine, but before that I was always used to use English OS....
As I'll get the Vista Ultimate, there is always possibility to change the OS language if I'll get fed up with Japanese...but I'm not sure, how much it would screw up the OS....does anyone have any experiences? Or is it possible to order that cheap Vista disks without license and use serial number from Japanese Vista for the English one?

Yes only with ultimate you can change languages by downloading a language pack from Microsoft

Not to my knowledge. Vaio applications will probably still run in Japanese.
You may hit issues with some Japanese sites blocking you for not having a "japanese" windows also you may hit some issues with cellphone drivers or oneseg tuner drivers or other japan only drivers. I ran into that issue with the Drivers from AU (KDDI)
The liscense should work on both. -
I'm not planning to take the WAN so it should be OK. I was mainly curious how much 'switchable' it is in real. Still I'm interested in more people experiences....

yeah the language packs shouldn't slow your system, but any software that came on it that is hard coded for Japanese will not change
-
But it's true that lacking of all other language mutations on some Japanese websites made me get used to Japanese OS......that's why I'm curious if it's OK to switch from JP->EN, than from EN->CZ and again CZ->JP. Or get used to use only the JP one and be fain with the broken Czech for instance.....or run Czech XP on VMware (but if the VistaU has this 'feature', I would prefer not)....
Thanks for the answer anyway -
Bump...no one else?

If it's possible so smoothly how does it look like from your infos, I would call it one of the biggest Vista's feature...messing up with languages (mainly in my case, when I'm using two languages wit non-standard coding) was always big problem...
