    Hi Everyone,

I had windows XP MCE pre-installed on my vaio (VGN-FE31Z) and I upgraded to vista ultimate yesterday, and have made a total mess of it! And i know you cannot uninstall it! Any suggestions anyone? Would it be worth getting an XP OEM disk and then re-upgrading to vista or is that not possible! I usually sort problems out I cause, but I have come to a dead end with this!

Hopefully someone will be able to help,

    Thanks
    Stewart

Did you destroy the recovery partition? If so, you have three potential routes for help:

    1) Contact Sony, get the recovery CD/DVD, then re-install the Ultimate upgrade and try again.
    2) If you have an Ultimately upgrade CD, use the install workaround that was posted in the news stories on NBR ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1777910).
    3) If you don't have the Ultimate CD, try to contact MS and get one. Since you already have a key, there should be either no charge or a very small one to obtain a disc.

If you didn't destroy the recovery partition, just try again after restoring the computer to factory conditions.

Can you do a clean install? If you've already backed up your important data, then I would go that route if it's available.
