So I just broke my Vista uptime![]()
450 hours right now! Was 370-380 before
Shows how much stabler it has become![]()
So what do you guys think?
What are your uptime records?
PS: Can a mod change the #10 question to "I leave my computer on 24/7 as much as I can"
-
I've had it on for one whole week. I'm pretty sure it can last more, but I like to turn it off when I don't use it (takes about 30 secs to shutdown and to boot...).
-
Only 30 mins for now, but because I got spammed by popups and just got annoyed and held down the power button.
Usually my computer is always on because I'm always seeding stuff. -
I leave it on/in sleep during the school week. I reboot into XP on weekends or if something is incompatible.
-
My record is around 800 hours, and I only rebooted because I had installed Internet Explorer 8, and it asked me to reboot for it to work.
And oh, I selected every poll option! -
I leave it on until I go to bed except if I must download somethings or somethings to process
-
Generally I start it up in the morning, the use standbye throughou the day.
Sometimes I do hve to restart it due to an erratic mouse (static problem), but seldomly.
Sometimes I shut down due to a low battery.
Over night its generally off - I have left it on in the past though.
From experience it tends to run better with a regular restart. -
The only time I shut it down is to reboot the system after an windows update or software installation. I've had to shut it down a handful of times for low battery too. Other than that it stays on all the time, in sleep mode while I sleep, works fine. Don't have a record though (don't really pay attention to that stuff).
-
I don't really care much about windows up time. Since I am always tweaking something (installing and testing new software and then removing it) I often have to restart multiple times during the day for the changes to take effect, therefore my uptime will usually be only a few hours at best. I also shut down at night when I go to sleep, unless there is something downloading that I really want.
Now my servers at work usually stay running without a restart for weeks seeing as the OS running the virtual machines is linux based.
Edit: hmm 999th post -
I see no reason for Vista to not run into infinity with normal use. Then again, I see no reason for anyone NOT to reboot every week or so for updates.
-
depends, I use sleep mode most of the time, however due to some hardware issues I've been forced to turn off my computer within a few hours when it BSOD's

home server runs all time except for updating, then it reboots.
pc/notebook how ever it fits. sometimes for days, sometimes not. -
What makes Linux able to be updated without having to reboot save for kernel upgrades? Before someone mentions gpu drivers, only restarting x is usually enough to get them to work after installing them. I wish my laptop would not restart on me during the night because of some obscure Windows update....
-
What about sleep/ hibernate options? I put my laptop on sleep during the time when I don't use it, and on hibernate during the nights, and restart for driver updates, Windows updates.
-
it stays on until i install something new and need to restart
-
I'm currently at a day.
PC is on 24/7 unless I have to restart due to updates or certain software installations. -
The desktop (running XP Pro, using it mainly for a server) is 24/7 online, uptime goes up to 2-3 months, before some update pop-up, or something else forces me to reboot it.
I'm not leaving my lappy to run more than a week without reboot, because it starts to get sluggish. Most of the time it's on, but I'm shutting it down sometimes (at night). -
It would be cool if Microsoft works in some feature to allow updates of all kinds to be done without restarting the machine. That would be awesome, and I think Windows 7 might be primed for having that ability. It usually takes me 5 minutes to get back into working order after a reboot, because I have quite a few tools that load on startup, including a virtual machine that runs a Vista Ultimate guest OS. For the most part I do leave my machine on unless I'm going to be away from the house for more than a day or so.
-
i turn it off when i don't need it or when i don't download anything
but it's usually on -
My laptop is always on 24/7 except for when some program messes everything up and hangs the whole system, or when I install any updates or programs that require a restart to work (unless I can figure out how to run the program without a restart.).
-
Restart due to updates. When don't use it i put it on hibernate for the nite.
-
18 days, with the use of standby instead of shut down.
-
Amazing thing is, my laptop is still working perfectly!
Asides from the problem I am having with MSN not receiving or sending messages 97% of the time right now
Loving the stability!
Well concidering all the minor tweaks and stuff vista never does anything without asking me such as updates
Becuase... well I have a major issue with that...
Everytime I update Vista automatically during the night I wake up due to my laptop booting up and then shutting off automatically, and it does so endlessly so the harddrive keeps clicking every couple seconds...
I know its not vista or my HDD because this is a brand new harddrive and vista is freshly installed etc...
So I might fear this is the BIOS, HDD connection wirring whatever... -
The longest I've ever left mines on is about 24+. No problems at all.
-
I leave my laptop on 24/7... but i turn my desktop off every night.
-
My system is on 24/7, and only goes through reboots because I'm constantly testing different BIOS configs and drivers.
-
-
So right now I am pushing 650Hrs / 26.5 Days ! ! !
No overheating or anything, im itching to get some new nVidia drivers because I still use DOX 182.44
My laptops a true beast!
I am really hoping to get a used X9100 or X9000 (forgot which one I need) for <$200 -
I sadly announce my laptop freezing in the middle of the night with a black screen with a 640X480 res. mouse that was pretty much close to useless... and after hitting a couple keys BLUE SCREEN OF DEAAATH!!! BSOD SUCKS
So my record lays in between 680-720 hours / 29-30 days
