    Hi,

Im currently running Windows Vista Home Premium on my new Dell. I decided to validate my copy of Vista however, after I enter my product key (sticker on the bottom of notebook) it says the product key is invalid. Ive tried the automated phone service however that says my installation ID is incorrect.. now it says that I have 6 days left to activate... HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Is the sticker key for Vista Home Premium? If you purchased it with VHP you shouldn't have to validate the license (OEM validation does it for you).

I'd suggest that you reinstall with the Dell OS CD and see if that helps you.

    yawn.

microsoft-bashing is best left to 14 year olds who have no concept of the real world.

if you're having probs with activation, just call the phone #. the usual turnaround time is 10 mins or less.

    no worries.

It's called a 'joke' - but since 14 year olds in your demographic can't grasp such a concept - I can see why it's so elusive ;)

LoL! Ya Hear that Smg Monkey? The MS Acolyte says nothing to worry about - so all is good now ;) - LoL :p

actually, i provided a specific solution to the poster's problem.

you, on the other hand, are just taking up server space with useless posts.

"lol" ? geez, what are you, 12?

Really? Funny that - it didn't seem that quite specific as much as it was a canned, generalized statement.

uh-oh.. better watch out people! - the humour gestapo is on the loose again :p

As mentioned above, Call MS and activate it over the phone.

Being as he has an OEM copy, he probably needs to call Dell first. But yes, call them. You bought their product... expect them to support it. Make it cost them money. That's the only way they'll learn how much of a pain in the rear it is for consumers.

I’ve once installed Vista using a Retail Disk but with an OEM key (OEM CD was lost). Both online and automated telephone activation failed, then I called MS and got hold of a customer service representative. He gave me an activation code right away.

MS is not as bad as people think. If you call during no peak hours you can expect to speak to a actual live Indian, as in India within at least 10 minutes. And they will give you the activation code. Be polite and say thankyou.

well.. thanks for the more USEFUL posts... i'll give dell a call and see what they say... i really hate dell customer support.. (my first dell computer too)

    o well.. thanks again

O and by the way.. will reinstalling my OS have any other benefits? ive heard it speeds it up or sumthin..? then i might as well reinstall anyway. LOL there is a lot of crapware on this system..

and another question... I've already installed Office 2007 and activated it (at least something works), do i need to deactivate or sumthin to reinstall it again? I only have 3 licenses, and this is last one..

and why u baggin out 14 yr olds? im 14 with a heck of a lot of computer knowledge (for my age anyway...)
