I currently do not use windows updates because I had bad luck in the past on xp but I am curious do all you Vista users do the updates, and if so have you ever had any problems or performance degradation after them?

BTW I have my auto updates disabled but I did manually check and my new HP has like 20 windows updates that are available.

i leave them on automatic. as far as the 'other programs' bit, i believe that only works with regards to other Microsoft programs, such as Office. i have it enabled and have only received Office 2007 updates from it.

I have my setting so that Windows never checks for updates. I manually check for updates every week and then decide which ones I want to download and install.

It works with any program/hardware driver that is submitted to MSFT Updates, including other companies. Got ATI driver updates on my e1505, CSR patch etc. as well as Office.

I'm with the school of thought of "If it ain't broke..."

I turn auto-updates off on my main desktop rig, and will only manually seek out the patches to specific problems I'm having.

I leave mine on auto. If you do it manually, what types of updates would you exclude?

I ran into an issue with a update from CSR for my Dell 350 Bluetooth mod. The update they sent to Microsoft updates actually reduced functionality of the mod :eek2: , so reinstalled the original app, and said "Hide update" for that one!!
