I like to have my laptop sleep when I close the lid, and then wake when I lift the lid up (without having to press the power button...just seems easier and make more sense this way). Does anyone know how to enable it? Or is this just a problem with my Samsung x360. My previous (now sold) netbook, Lenovo S10 with WinXP, could do that and I thought it was very nice and convenient.

    Thanks!

Control Panel > Sys & Maint > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Power buttons and lid > Lid close action

thats lid to close, we're talking lid to open. that option doesn't fix this at all.
It would also be nice if vista had a way to time out the backlight or dim it like apples do...

Yeah, the setting is called "lid close action" but it affects both opening and closing the lid.

Not on my Vaio FZ190. The lid close part does put it to sleep. Opening the lid does nothing. I think this might be hardware specific.

That is likely true. On ThinkPads, opening the lid will pull it out of sleep mode (if you set it to).

I just tested mine, slept when closed, woke up when I opened it.
