I have heard rumors that Vista and the new Word program could give people trouble. The main thing I have heard is that given the change in the way files are done with the new Word, they may not be backward compatible with preexisting Word systems. Since most larger users won't be switching to Vista anytime soon, this could be a big problem. Does anyone know about this? True? Bad rumor?

Word 2007 has a compatibility mode where you can save and open documents in older versions. Just do Save As and select Word 97-2003 Document.

The compatibility problems are only because MS keeps changing the file format that Office saves stuff in. If I had O2007 and XP I'd have the same problem...Vista isn't the cause.
I have the same issues with O2003 and older versions of office, but vestige is right: you just have to save it as the older file version for things to be okay. -
I just had this issue tonight, I was running 2007 but went back to 2003, and all my docs were in 2007 docx format, but MS have a compatibility converter on their website, 27mb download and it intergrates into 2003, so it's all ok
