I wonder if there's anyone who knows how to disable Vista animations. Specifically, fade effects.
Normally, one would go to System/Advanced/Visual Effects and uncheck animations.
So I do. But about one day later they re-enable themsleves. And I see Deja-vu - "Fade or slide menus into view" is CHECKED.
Vista simply checks it back after a while.

What version of Vista? What lapotp do you have? Have you done any tweaks to the OS?
-
Vista 32/Ultimate
Sager NP2090, Intel CoreDuo.
Untweaked OS. Except that I installed TuneUp utilities 2008 to enable unofficial Vista themes. Do not actually use TuneUp utils, or even have it running in the background. -
I have them disable too and set the start-up of all TU2008/2009 to be manual in services.msc. I am on Windows 7, not able to use TU2008/2009 already. T.T -

besides being a huge supporter of the animations for enhancing the user experience and help window handling, as humans are trained to concentrate and predict movements very well, and remember them well, i know that disabling them normally doesn't turn them back on for some reason..
i guess tuneup is still the one not playing nice here. -
May I ask you what's wrong with the fade effects?
I actually like it. -
Back to tropic:
Just enable Windows Classic theme, I have used it for a while before, and it does not change back... -
Classic theme looks too depressing to me, total no go
Any other fix for the Vista theme?
(I have aero disabled, BTW)
As for fade effects, they make me feel I'm on a 1990s CPU. -
changing themes will sometimes reenable the animations. Mine does that all the time.
Vista animations and fade effects - pretty bad
