    Morning guys.

I don't know if it's just me, but I have a 4 week old Vaio SZ 483, and whenever I start it up with a fully charged battery, by the time Vista has finished starting, the battery is down to an indicated 90%. Is this normal for Vista?

Also, after reading threads here talking about boot times, what is everybody defining as the point where the system has booted. ie from pressing the start button to desktop, or start button to desktop where the little circular logo has stopped and is the mouse cursor? It would be good to have a definition.

    Thanks all.

Could it be a calibration issue? Isn't there a way to recalibrate your battery. 90% does seem a little off.

Buggered if I know why it sucks the battery. Being only 4 weeks old, I would not have thought it needed a battery calibration. However, no matter what the charge level, every time I crank it up, it takes about 10% off the battery life. Long battery run time, my a**.
I am thinking about reformatting and installing Vista so I can lose all the Sony crap. Does the recovery partition have all the bloatware as well, or will this just have what I need? Anyone?

    Thanks guys.

The recovery software should have the option of burning recovery DVDs. Since the SZ was released with XP at one point in it's life cycle there are XP drivers out there. If you have the time, nuke the drive and install XP. Thats what I did for my HP and I have my webcam, mic and everything working perfectly.

I've got a copy of XP Pro and have downloaded all the XP drivers off the Sony support site, and I think I will just nuke it all (at least it will get rid of the bloatware). Does anyone have any idea though why Vista would drain the Sony batteries like this on startup? Just playing around the other day, I managed to drain my battery just by starting up and shutting down half a dozen times. Absolutely ridiculous.
