    Hi Guys,

I just got my G1S a couple days ago and though I'm happy with the way the hardware looks like, I'm not exactly impressed with Vista just yet..

Basically, as soon as I hit the power button, I get "the file is possibly corrupt the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum". Then it will just sit there. However, if I hit the power button again (turning the system off) and then once more (turning the system on), the machine will boot normally. I'm glad I'm able to boot at all, but would like to get rid of that message...

What I've read so far seems to indicate that I might have to run a repair of vista. However before I do that I just wanted to hear any thoughts from others.

Another thing I've noticed is that Vista seems to run realllllly sluggishly at times. I mean, sometimes it just seems to hang for a while before opening windows, folders, etc. (and this is a machine with a 2.2Ghz cpu, 3gb ram PLUS intel turbo memory!) Does Vista take time to "learn" before the system speeds up? I hope so..

I'm still playing around, trying to get used to the system but am very busy at work and this is the first time I've really been able to sit down and play around a bit though I got the machine almost 4 days ago :(

If anyone has any thoughts on the above 2 points for now, I would appreciate it :)

I would wonder if the Robson memory cache has something to do with this issue. Is there a way to disable the Robson to see if it doesn't stop the error message?

I was going to get a Compal ILF90 before I bought the G1s, and the salesperson actually guided me away from the Robson, explaining the issues that a cached (virtual) memory causes vs actual memory. You have plenty memory available with 3 gigs!

Vista is different, for sure. It runs fast and my load times seem minimal. No hang in any applications either. Other than my screen resolution occasionally having a mind of it's own, things are rockin' :)
Let me know about the Robson memory and if you decide to repair/reinstall. Good luck ~ Robin

Thanks for the input Robin. I'm really hoping that it's not a Robson issue - otherwise...well, that would just suxxorz because...because! >_<

Before I do anything, I'll contact btotech and see if they have ever experienced anything like this. Will post back if I hear anything :)

Of course, if there are other suggestions/thoughts, do let me know!

You may have been right Robin... I've finally narrowed it down to the issue only occurring (ie the checksum error message appearing) when I install the Intel drivers for the Robson chip. Right now I've rolled back to the point where the Robson chip drivers are not installed/device manager is showing an "unknown device" and there are no more errors. I have tested this with the stock driver CD that came with the G1S, as well as the latest drivers available for the Robson chip on the Intel website.

Is it possible that the Robson chip is bad? Is there any kind of software/diagnostic tool that I can use for testing it? I've also been posting on the asusforum.com site, and searching on Google, but thus far have not been lucky in finding a solution to this.

Well, since you just got it, I'd suggest you take it back and ask for a replacement :D And hope that one doesn't have a bad chip or anything.

That option is really a /last/ resort... given that I'd have to ship it back to the US from Japan...

So far overall everything seems to be working except when I install those drivers... hence I'm wondering if it's possible to test the Robson chip itself and if that's the cause of the issue then perhaps ask for a replacement for that.

Hopefully I can get this resolved without me having to ship it back...
