    Hello folks,

    1) I want to use these solutions, but i can't execute the command in them:
    http://liveslick.com/2007/09/03/is-vista-eating-up-your-hard-drive-space/
i open Command Prompt, the program already says that the task will be established with the administrator rights, ok, then i copy the text of the needed command(vssadmin list shadowstorage), new (dos like) window appears and then quickly dissapears, how to cope with it?

    another solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940266/en-us
i open start, then copy the text(runas /user:local_Computer_Name\administrator cmd) of the command, dos like window appears, and ask to type my password, i type, but it is not typing in the window, and then i press Enter, the window dissapear.

    What should i do?

    2) During surfing a net after nearly an hour i get some errors - i can't make right mouse click in the IE window, it is very annoying, how to remedy this defect(maybe this is an IE bug and i didn't try to use opera or firefox, but i like IE and want to use it, therefore need to solve that bug), also then i can't open any programm like my comp. and others, but after disconnect all goes right and ok.

1a) Right click on computer, select properties. You should be in the system menu, click on system protection, then uncheck whichever drive(s) you want to NOT have system restore monitoring. Be sure that you make regular backups to cover yourself if you decide to turn of SR.
    b) press Win+r to bring up a run, then type cmd to bring up a command window. Then type: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled then exit. Restart.

    2. First, try out Firefox, almost everyone that I have seen introduced to it has been a convert. If it must look like IE check out this page to skin FF to look like it: http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/firefox_internet_explorer/ .
    Found a link: http://www.techsupportforum.com/mic...lorer-forum/49465-i-can-t-right-click-ie.html

    Thanks notyou.

    another questions:
my pc is Sony SZ6 with intelX3100 video and dedicated video Nvidia 8400GS.
As i understand it is better to download and install new drivers for X3100 and especially for nvidia 8400. I also make some gaming - COD4 and others.
I've just checked nvidia control panel:
    Nvidia
    date: 11.05.2007
    ver.: 7.15.11.128
    Is it old?
    So,
1)What is the best working driver version for nvidia 8400gs and where should i download it(from nvidia or laptopvideo2go)?

2)Should i also install drivers for intel X3100?(i can check and write here X3100 driver version on my vaio).

    Thanks in advance.

If you're new to Vista and Windows you should not be tweaking or disabling things. Unless you are out of disk space and need the space, you should leave the vssadmin settings alone. Many tweak guides are not for beginners and in fact recommend doing dangerous things to the system for the sake of a few seconds of speed increase.

    Baserk,
    orev,
thank you for your advices, and what's about my previous questions about video drivers?
cos i bought COD4, RainbowSix Vegas, and wanna buy Crysis, therefore as i understood i need latest drivers for videocard and even for X3100 for smooth gaming. but i have never done it before, also i've heard that i need some program to use after unistalling old drivers and before installing new drivers..

You need to figure out what video card you have. You cannot have both the x3100 and the nvidia 8400... it's one or the other. Then you can install the drivers for them. Otherwise, I am not a gamer so I cannot say if those games will work well on your laptop.

then u should leave it be to the Stamina app and utilities and SONY delivered gpu driver. With Vista, and I would not recommend playing the "upgrade" game to XP on this machine, after a few days of learning (vista that is, not the user), ur comp will fly

    cheers ...

There are 2 intel drivers, the one for the 965 chipset, and then another one for the x3100 video card. Since you also have the 8400GS, it's highly unlikely that they put both video cards in the system (though, maybe they did?). So you just need one or the other. In any case, if you try to install a driver and the hardware is not on the system, it should tell you and it won't install.

    another question:
What Vista hotfixes and other essential downloads should i download?
i am on dial-up connection now, will get back dsl in a month, therefore i can't download them right now, and i'm somehow worried about getting some spy programms or viruses. i've only Norton Internet Security, and it is also not updated.

i personally would remove norton, and then get avast for the virus protection. This, in combination with the vista firewall, would hold u good. U can wait for the broadband to download all the vista updates, heck lots of vista users had gone for long time before any decent updates came out, one month for u wont be bad.

    cheers ...

new questions appeared about system restore:

    1) on my Sony sz i have a hidden partition for system recovery(no recovery disks), for now i don't want to perform a semi-clean install, so i'll keep it.
the question is: do i need to make recovery disks in case if my system would fail?
or Would be hidden partition enough to make system recovery?

It would be best if you could install all updates from Microsoft. If you have the option of letting them download overnight, that might work best for you.

A recovery partition will allow you to restore the system, but they won't help you if the hard disk fails. That is a pretty big failure. If you have the ability to do it (time and blank dvds), then you should definitely make the recovery discs.

understood, yeah i have blank dvd's, so, i'll do it soon.

    Questions about system cleaning:

    1) Installed program called Registry Genius v.2.6, then scanned all section of Windows registry for errors, it said:
details of problems found: 336, problems found: 1476, my laptop is only 2 weeks old, so, should i fix these problems?

    2) What is the best program for full uninstall of programs? i've heard only about Your Uninstaller pro.

most preInstalled comps will have loads of unreferenced registry entries - remnants from assembly line installation.
. fix them if u choose, make a restore point FIRST!

i dont know about "best", i just use windows standard tool or cCleaner

    cheers ...

    Another one:
I go to Start>All Programs, when i try to select any folder, it selects with delay.
Also when i try to open folder here, it also opens with delay..
Is it normal to Vista or is it "my" problem?
