Has anyone ever tried to do a clean install of Windows Vista using just an upgrade DVD? Did it work when you tried it? My university has a nice deal on Vista Business upgrade going right now, but unfortunately the huge discount does not cover full versions. Vista is so ridiculously expensive that I wouldn't be able to afford a full version. Anyway, any help or experiences are appreciated. Thanks

well, the 'exploit' way is to first using that DVD to install as a 30-day trial, Dont put any CDKey on first time

then with the 30-day trial installed, use the DVD to 'upgrade' , meaning 2nd install... then use the upgrade key to activate

Yes it would work. Actually, people have figured out ways to install the upgrade version without XP.

Are we allowed to talk about these methods on the forums? If not, I could probably figure it out on my own. I just wanted confirmation that it was possible.

If you have a Valid CD Key, and are not talking about using pirated software, then I see no problem with installing Vista using an upgrade DVD on a computer without XP?

I thought an upgrade DVD required a previous version of Windows already be present on the computer you want to install on. What I'm looking to do is install Vista on a computer without XP or any other operating system using an upgrade DVD. If this is possible (and based on the above posts it looks like it) then I'm totally happy saving a few hundred dollars on an upgrade disc vs. a full install disc. Thanks for the responses, I'll give this a shot!
