Is anyone else using complete PC backup? I just used it to make a full image of my system so I could upgrade the hard drive. It took about 5 hours to make a 107 GiB image stored on a firewire hard drive, but only 1 hour to restore. The backup time seems ridiculously slow to me.

Is anyone else seeing similar slowness?

I am, but I burn to DVD instead. I haven't made an image in awhile though. I think my image took 2 to 2 and a half hours to burn-I could be wrong.

But yes, restoring is relatively fast.

If all you have is Home Basic, I don't think so. You are better off with a utility that has a positive history of working, like Ghost or Acronis.

It took less than 1 hour for me to make a 40GB image on my third partion.

Windows Complete PC Backup creates a backup image, which contains copies of your programs, system settings, and files. And when you use the image to restore your computer, it is a complete restoration. You can't choose individual items to restore, and all of your current programs, system settings, and files are replaced.

I believe Complete PC Backup is only available in Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions.

As advised, complete backup makes an exact image of your drive/partition and allows you to restore it.

I have ultimate, but personally prefer Acronis True Image Home v. 10 or v.11
It can make an exact complete image on just about any type backup devise/media. You create a "Bootable Rescue Media" on CD/DVD for when you want to recover/install the image, for example in case your system crashes. The you simple reboot w/ the Acronis Rescue Media, point it at the image and select restore..

What's really nice about Acronis, is that at this point, even if you just did a complete image, you can still select to restore the full image(disks or partitons), restore specified files or folders(Outlook, Program files, Favorites, etc), or sector by sector restoration of specified disks or partitions.

I personally save an image of each of my pc's on a seperate partition/hdd AND on an external usb hdd.

A full install of 64bit vista and all my favorite programs and data equates into ~14gig Acronis Image that can be restored in under 20 min from an attached sata hdd. An external hdd takes a while longer.

I love the program. You can make incremetal backups, but I set mine up to make a full backup every week --> deleting the old one.
