    That does it...

    I'm no longer looking for Vista compatability (specifically Aero-Glass) when I'm getting a notebook... I'm buying one in the next two years again anyway and by then MAYBE Vista will be out ._.;

note, that this analysis by Gartner is speculative, honestly I think we could all toss a coin and say heads it's released in January, tails it isn't and be as accurate as what Gartner is saying here. They're market analysts, not software engineers.

I know Gartner, and I do respect them..

But this time, I'd have to disagree..
Microsoft has been sticking to the before 2007 Deadline, I've been reading on MSDN, and the blogs of some of the lower level developers..
    http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,2180,933657,00.asp

[UNCONFIRMED / My interpretation from MS Employee Blogs]
It seems that delays for Vista have been found to be due to a very serious mangament/senior management problems. They were given a chance to redeem themselves, (actually, more like half a dozen chances)...
But they just kept failing time and time again. Not only did they delay Vista, but they also had scheduled to do features (ie: WinFS) that could not possibly have been done with the resources they were allocated.. Sheer ignorance on mangaments part....At the turn of 2006, Microsoft appeared to be "letting go" of quite a few of those managers. And I don't mean they just sent them to a different department.. They were fired...
Which is normally a very bad thing this late in the project development. And I'd see why many would think this would delay Vista even more.

But if you look at the blogs from the lowly coders.. You'll see how hell-bent they are on getting Vista finished and how the development of Vista is moving much more smoothly now. They really are excited about releasing Vista, perhaps even more so than the customers waiting to buy it.
Either that, or they're really afraid they might get fired also and are working their tails off now (for real)..

My bets are on a Pre-2007 Release

Well, wether it's true or not.. I'm still not looking for it because I've decided I won't need it. =X

I agree with Sidicas insight, I also think I'm glad I don't work for Microsoft because you can only imagine the stress levels and work hours they're putting in right now. One thing is for sure, electricity bills for lights left on at night will be high the next few months in Redmond.

Guess they can't release Merom and Vista at the same time like they planned.

^ More RAM is all dependant on how much you already have...

I'm not sure if 512MB or 1GB is the minimum requirement.

At one point I heard you would need a dedicated videocard...that may change as well I suppose as it's actually in MS interest to make the requirements as broadly supported as possible.

I'm still betting on a January release, that report (which I should have mentioned) is a report - not something from Microsoft, nothing official - they're making an educated guess.

Then again, if it is going to be delayed again . . nobody would be surprised. ;)

I think vista is being overhyped! Im going to buy a laptop soon and im probably not going to switch to vista anytime soon either. I only browse the web/ use MS office. Thats sufficient for me now, how will that improve with Vista?

Remember advertising is based on making you want something you dont really need. Security is already taken care of as almost everyone uses 2-4 3rd party programs for security. So what's everyones computer lacking? a fancy interface?

    Hi,

Anyway, WinFS seems to be a really interesting structure. I've searched over to find some info on it and came upon this source http://www.ntfs.com/ If you wish, you might give it a glance too.
