Okay here's the situation..
I recently sold my desktop computer (XP), and backed up all the media on it onto an external drive to use with my Dell XPS 1530 (Vista).
For some reason, my laptop is not liking many of the video files that are on the external drive. It crashes my computer if I try to copy the file over to my xps HDD!! And it's a huge hassle because I intended to stream this media to my PS3, and every time I try it closes my sharing application.
I had no issues with these files when they were on my xp machine. They streamed fine, and never crashed the OS. Music files work perfect, however it's these AVI files that are giving me issues.
I have the latest DIVX and K-Lite codecs and still nothing. Can someone explain why Vista is not liking these files?

I'm guessing it's the hdd format. but I doubt it since vista sees the files.

I've been thinking of reformatting the drive....but I have no place to put it's contents in the meantime! d'oh!

Just in case anybody else stumbles on this thread, the issue was caused by Nero. I fixed it using this..
Vista does not like my video files! Help!
