I bought a new Toshiba for my wife for Christmas, and tried to set up the email client today. I used the POP and SMTP settings from her desktop computer, the email client for Vista looks nearly identical to Outlook Express in WindowsXP. But it will connect, download one message, then timeout. Start it again, it downloads the next message, then stops and times out again. Otherwise it connects to the internet and loads webpages just fine.

You have any email scanning service on? If yes, disable it and see. Also try Open and Close the Windows Calendar option and give it a shot

    cheers ...

No email scanning on so far. It came with Norton 360 but I deleted that right away. I'll either go with AGP or Avast.

My mother is using Windows Live Mail with Kaspersky 7 - no problems, so its not the program per se, unless its your internet provider.

Have you made sure ports etc. are correct?

I think on yahoo you can recieve on several ports for example...
