    Hi guys,

I'm having problems with my VHP 32. When I have files on my desktop, right-clicking or other activity freezes explorer (white screen). For example unzipping a RAR-file on desktop often leads to this. The same operation can be done through "my computer", but fails on desktop.

    Couple of facts:
    - I use a minimalistic desktop with a dock, rainlendar and only a few LARGE icons.
    - I can kill and re-start explorer.exe through Taskmanager.
    - Windows gives desktop performance 4.0 points, I don't use a Aero-theme.
    - Specs in sig below

    Anything I could do? Thanks!

When did this start? Does this happen when you log in as another user? Do this happen in safe mode? Have you performed a virus/malware scan?

Thanks for your inputs. Couple of quick tests indicates following:

    - Does not seem to happen with other user
    - No viruses found (F-Secure)
    - Have to try safe-mode EDIT: No problems in safe-mode

    - Can't remember any specific starting-time, but it has gotten worse / more annoying recently.

Yeah try the safe mode and look at the event log files... and then it could be easier to hunt down the problem area!!!

Yes, try using System Restore to revert back to a previous point in time and see if that gets rid of it.

Since this isn't a system-wide problem, I don't think a system restore is warranted at this time.

To the OP: post a new reply with your safe mode results instead of editing your post. That will make reading the thread much easier.

Okay guys, tried safe-mode and there where no problems. I rather not do the System Restore, as I don't know how far the problem goes or what changes I made since. Though if that's the only option, I'll give it a go.

Fonduekid: Not sure what you meant whit looking at event log files?

Log in as the new user and look at the running processes. Make a note of them. Then, log in as the problem user and do the same thing. Do the same thing for startup programs. Hopefully you'll notice a program/process or two that only loads in the problem user.

Well, comparing processes and start-up-programs didn't help, couldn't find anything unusual.

But one sad update: It's not only the desktop, it's the entire explorer. Made some more file-transferring and noticed it. It's not all time, but often it freezes. Anyone have some suggestions? Thanks.

Last time a system would just freeze, I ended up replacing a motherboard.
At this point, a System Restore is highly sugested to rule out any hardware issues...
