Sometimes when I try to shut the computer down, it just hangs at the shutting down page. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off. This only started to happen more frequently after I installed Nokia PC Suite. But I really need that program to use with my phone. Is there any way to fix this? Could it be something else that's causing the problem? Thanks.

Have you any external HD's attached at the time of shut down or is the Nokia paired with the PC at the time of shut down.
Basically you want to close any tricky programs yourself before starting the shut down sequence. I was running a defrag on an external HD once and it delayed the shut down.
Is there any other "tricky" programs running at the same time? -

USB devices that are plugged in are known to cause boot up and shutdown hang.
Have you tried tweaking the registry of program shutdown time? -
Em... come to think of it, I think I might have left the phone plugged in to the usb when I turned off the computer. I'll see if it happens again if I remove it first. Also, does memory card that's inserted into the card slot prevents the computer from shutting down?

Strange, the computer was hanging again, even the phone was detached from the usb port. I'm reinstalling windows now.

I have just reinstalled vista, along with the PC suite. When I woke up this morning, the computer was at the "Shutting down..." screen again.

Okay, this is getting freaky. I just removed Nokia PC Suite, and the first shut down after the uninstallation was hanging. Why.....

Is it patched up to the latest SP and critical updates ?
And boot in safe mode, shut-down and see if it hangs. -
It does not hang in safe mode. My vista 64 does have sp1 installed. Would installing 32 solve the problem?
Vista hangs at "Shutting down" page
