I decided to reformat my harddrive the other day and install Windows Vista 64 bit. During the installation (the point where it detects hardware - prior to this everything runs fine) Vista hangs. I am forced to shutdown the machine and when it starts up it says, 'An error has occured during installation, please reboot and install again'.
I've tried with several versions of Vista but the same problem occur every time. Sometimes the installation will reach a little further but still freezes.
I have installed on two different harddrives, both S-ATA and each time i've changed the SATA mode in BIOS to IDE, as i've heard that Vista occationally has problems installing when it is set to RAID.
Also, i've tried to remove all but one memory stick but with no change. I have reset the BIOS to default settings which means no overclock whatsoever.
It's quite peculiar because I have not changed any hardware since the last time I installed Vista succesfully.
I am quite sure I haven't exhausted every option yet but I've sort of hit a wall . Any suggestions?
The desktop system is in my signature.
