I recently purchased an HP dv6500t and sadly it came preloaded with vista. I always enjoy having music in the background so eager to get started, I immediately downloaded some Cake. It worked fine the first day but it refuses to play the music today. Whats more, it won't play music from a CD either. When Windows Media Player opens, an error message pops up that says

"Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."

any clues as to how I can fix this? Otherwise I'm going to go nuts.

Don't worry, it's a new feature of Vista. Just enjoy it. While you're at it, send some more money to Microsoft for providing you with such a robust, quality product. :p

i'd also suggest to call hp about this problem, since you recently purchased your notebook, it should be under warranty.

Try using something better than WMP?

Joking aside, I would try another media player to check if it's truly an access problem as opposed to WMP acting up.

If you downloaded Cake through iTunes or an WMP enabled site, contact that site. Otherwise, you're discussing illegal activities here, which is against the TOS. I certainly hope you aren't.

Try manually locating and opening the files on your computer. That makes it seem like you either do not have access, or WMP can't find the files.
