Please help. I have an issue that's screwed me 3-times in the classroom in the last week. It's getting to the point where I can't hibernate or go on standby.
Windows Explorer lock up when I open a new file browser window or browse to a folder. Applications also freeze up on me, and I can't close them with Task Manager. These things seem to happen more frequently immediately after coming out of hibernation or standby.
- Recent clean install of Vista Business (legit & activated via phone) w/all patches
- UAC enabled....I needed it...
- Running newest version of Kapersky Internet Security
- Hardware is a Fujitsu T4210
- Fujitsu's Omnipass to login at bootup, but no to come out of hibernation/sleep
- Other software is Office 2007 Ultimate, ArtRage, Adobe Pro 7.0
This happens in both max performance and max battery configurations
I used most of the tips from the Vista sticky, but my problems started before making the changes.
Any ideas on what's wrong and how to fix it?

Bump......if I'm not being clear, or if there's any other information I could provide, please don't hesitate to let me know. I want to get this resolved.

The obvious answer would be "try another OS".
If that isn't an option, try to figure out what causes it. It's probably some kind of third-party software that hooks into Explorer (for example to add to the right-click menu, or to register a filetype association or whatever)
Check the event log.
Also what do you mean you can't close applications with task manager? What happens when you try? -
Was this laptop designed for Windows XP or Windows Vista?
If XP then its probably best to go back to it (compatibility reasons). But if you want to stick with Vista ensure that you have:
1) The latest BIOS update and see in its changelog that it supports Vista or resolves any hardware compatibility issues it has while running Vista.
2) Stable Vista drivers. Drivers from the manufacturers are probably the best bet for compatibility but it may not so you should either get stable Vista drivers from Fujitsu or from other hardware manufacturers (ATI, nVidia, RealTek, SiS, etc)
3) Vista Reliability updates. (May be a long shot but its worth trying)
What you could do is do a clean install and after you install a program you analyze how the system performs, and if a certain driver or program causes a problem uninstall it or don't install it after the next format.
If your laptop is designed for Windows Vista then come back and post here, or complain to Fujitsu. -
I won't have time for a clean install for a while. Best I could do is a restore from when only Vista and Office was installed, which was before I updated some of the drivers.
