    Is it possible to burn a CD from the hidden partition of my Lenovo and then install it on another laptop (toshiba) with the CD-key found on the bottom of the other lap? It has XP currently installed but initially it came with Vista pre-installed with no hidden partition or recovery CD. Apologies if this is already discussed.

    Is what the OP described even legal?

    YES, because the person owns both laptops with official licences, and was just trying to use the available means to install the OS.

    There are already (current) threads that asked about using friends' installation CDs with own licences.

    @OP:
    . No, it will not work, since the recovery partition is being made for that specific machine with drivers et al.

    cheers ...

    Unfortunately, it's a recovery partition. Any other ideas how to get Vista working ? After all, I've paid for it when purchasing the laptop...what a disappointment ;/
    OP ?
    It should be legal, since I am using the cd-key on the bottom. Otherwise, how am I supposed to reinstall my Vista ? I could be wrong but still...

    Thanks for clarifying. I assumed that the second laptop belonged to someone else for whatever reason.

    You will have to pay, one way or another, unless you can borrow someone else's installation CD, and use your COA for activation.

    Yes, it is legal what you tried to do. Unfortunately, it was not possible.

    cheers ...

    Contact Toshiba for recovery/install discs. They will send it to your for a small fee or sometimes even for free.

    An alternative is getting hold of any sort of MS Vista install disc and doing a clean install.
