I don't trust tomshardware, he's notorious for biased reviews, and bashing... flames aside. XP is faster is some instances for sure, but the difference I have noticed, it is negligable at best.
If all my games ran in vista, I would have no qualms packing away XP for good. It's not an issue of performance for me, but compatibility. Unfortunately, incompatibilities will always arise with every new OS release, it's just a fact of life.
I'm sincerely hoping microsoft finally releases a virtualpc that supports 3D hardware acceleration.

Unfortunately I already ruled that out as well, I kept Intel Thermal Analysis Tool running while I was troubleshooting, and the temperature *rarely* went over 50 degrees C. The average temp was around 44.

How about your GPU? It is possible that it got overheat and becomes unstabled.

I see your point.

Maybe SP1 won't be the answer for all, but will still help others. Hopefully in the coming months compatibility in Vista, games most of all, will be worked out. SP1 is supposedly going to resolve many application compatibility issues in Vista.

We all should cross our fingers, and hope for the best!!

I'm curious about the "Vista is faster" threads, because every experience I've had with Vista tells me precisely the opposite. Measureable benchmarks tell me the opposite, too.

This isn't about being an XP fanboy or purist, it's just about reality. I've grown increasingly frustrated with Vista, everything from network problems arising from hibernation to network file transfers.

If there are others that have the time to work through Vista's quirks, power to 'em. In my corner of the world, I have to get work done, not find out I need double the memory to realize less net performance.

I've not sworn off Vista completely; I have a dual-boot config on my laptop, but Vista will have to grow up a bunch to make it my full-time player.
