I knew it wasn't long until I'd have to drop by here.
Why the hell does my touchpad scroll die on my when browsing? It never happened in Xp, NOT EVEN ONCE.
It's terrible not being able to scroll when you have a huge screen and look at imense pictures.
    Is there a reason?

Have you tried a better driver? Does this happen in all programs (i.e. can you duplicate the dead scroll issue in Outlook, IE, Explorer)?

I bet it's a Vista driver. Try that first.

Yup,tried both the latest and the one that came with the cd.
    Same issues.
    Hopefully SP1 will fix that.

Did it start with a fresh Vista install? Maybe try installing Vista and adding SP1 right away. Have you tried scanning for viruses? How long has it been since you tried it in XP or another OS? Maybe the touchpad's just malfunctioning/dying?

Fresh vista install and SP1 added pretty much right away.
    No viruses,nothing.
No , the touchpad works fine, the scroll just dissapears in IE.
I guess it's IE's fault , since it works everywhere else.
    Darn Vista.

    Ok,this is really annoying.
The scrolling ability died again on the touchpad, after alt-tabbing from YMessenger to Opera.
And it's dead all over, FF and IE.
    Arrrgh.

Uninstall the ALPS/Synaptics touchpad drivers/software. I run mine using the OS standard drivers

    Which touchpad is it anyway?

Since it has been awhile since the last time you used it with XP or another OS, could you try it again? My thought is that maybe the touchpad is defective.

    LOL.
    It's not defective, it's a vista issue.
Oh well, nevermind. I can live with it , I use a mouse most of the times.
Hmm, Vista needs some work still... :)

If it's a Vista issue with that particular touchpad/notebook, there should be thousands of complaints out there about it. I'll check on it if you'll post your laptop model and touchpad details.

    Sounds like a driver issue.

Does your manufacturer have a more recent driver for your touchpad?

Have you tried uninstalling the touchpad driver and seeing if the default windows driver has this issue?

Have you tried resetting your scroll to the most default settings period?
Some of them have lots of special features for various things in Vista and quite frankly they are pointless IMHO.
More than likely you start up a certain "special feature" program which reassigns the scroll to something else and then it doesn't do what you expect it to.
