These threads are worthless. Face it. Windows in general, Vista particularly is taking over the world. Live search is the new black. Long live Bill Gates. haha
Honestly, most users would agree, Apple is better, but only because their hardware is more standardized compared to Windows PCs. But it's easier to program for Windows and there is a larger user base. Plus they are cheaper. If you enjoy paying a 50% premium on your computers go right ahead and get a Mac. If you enjoy getting as much bang for your buck, get use to Vista.

I think the best course of action is just to use the operating system that you prefer, and stop complaining and whining about the ones you don't like. For me, it's going to be either XP or Vista. For others, maybe Mac OS or a version of Linux.

Oh, please continue the senseless bickering and complaining and whining.
-
Vista just sucks - I wouldn't just accept that. Vista rocks!
-
Can we try to stay on topic please?
-
Thats my opinion and i stand by it.... MAC OS dont have larger user base and dont run many programs because they dont have that huge market share...so companies dont make compatible products much...but slowly software companies are realizing presence of apple..
Its a business oriented world and great technology doesnt always win.]
I am not whining, complaining...its an statement i made and i reasoned also...
Anyway, Vista has many advantages ....what i am saying is that it ll only give best performance after SP1 .
Its all abt SP1. -
Vista's actually pretty cool if you have hardware that's fully compatible with it.
What sucks is that Microsoft dominates the PC market, and Apple OS's dominate the Apple market. The only alternative is Linux. ONE alternative, that is what sucks - accept it. It's 2007 and we have ONE alternative. -
Linux is more than one. Can't even begin to count how many versions of Linux there are.

An OS is not a wife. Some people use more than an OS on their system(s).
And I really can't see any reason not to point out problems with this or that OS.
In this particular case what has been more useful to the OP?
A comment saying "my file transfer is fine, stop whining, I don't like it" or a comment saying "many people have the same problem, and MS has already issued fixes for similar problems"? -

I think mainly whining and complaining about the forums does no-one any good so its pointless. If you don't like vista, dont use vista.
Also the new updates drastically fixed my speeds. My usb transfers files very quickly compared to when I first used vista. -

So, you can choose not to answer to my posts. That's your choice. But you can't impose others not to answer your posts (unless you are a Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, but that's another matter).
I understand that you don't like being contradicted, but that's life, you have to live with it.
Life is not black and white: there are shades of grey, too (and colors). One can use an OS and find something that bugs him. Literally. What should one do? Pretend there's no problem at all? Why? Because otherwise some teenager who has the same OS and do not have that problem start crying "naa, naa, naa, it's my OS too and it's cute and nice!"?
When I have a problem with Windows I have no problems in saying "I have a problem with windows". When I have a problem with Linux I say "I have a problem with Linux". It's as simple as that.
Seems to me the whiners are those who would like to hide problems, to reassure themselves they made the best choice in choosing their perfect OS.
(Or maybe they too have problems, but are afraid to tell anybody because otherwise -for coherence- they should change their operating system at the first bug). -
Okay, so can someone give me a link to read abt linux...its time i shud try it....i want to know if i can play games on it? watch movies? mix songs?....
install windows platform programs??...
All i know abt linux is that it is open source.. -
And guys, its no use even arguing...purpose of argument is progress, not victory...
Here we are fighting and there Bill Gates is sitting on a wealth of $61 Billion ..... -
nocturnal, if you're having all these issues with vista, i dont see how there's anyway you're gonna not have problems under linux especially when you'll need to use windows emulation to put windows-specific software on it. and sredni, why is it that its so hard to accept a position that someone may actually have no issues with Vista? I have no issues with it, and as the IT admin at my company i actually like the security UAC so my co-workers dont accidentally start changing permissions of their computers. You have no clue how annoying it is to reload SQL files cause someone accidentally deleted it lol. Our server is still Win2003, but for the terminals, majority are runnin Vista Business with only our older computers usin XP Pro.

Guys, Vista may be good for some, bad for others. It depends on hardware, on driver versions, on all the software installed...it depends on everything...so each individual user may have an entirely different experience.
I've had several Vista systems cross my path recently. One was so buggy I didn't like it (my nc8430), yet other review notebooks that had Vista were fine. Some review notebooks had mild problems, other major, yet others still were fine. My 8710p?...the biggest reason I'm not using Vista now is that I need something guaranteed to work for me. Which at this time is not Vista.
So, there is a perfectly good reason to argue about things...but people (as a whole, not just you guys) need to realize that everyone's experience is probably going to be different. -

The problem is the reverse: people who can't accept the fact that someone may have problems with Vista, and that Vista have bugs (as can be inferred by the updates that fixed them - albeit not for everyone).
It just like being on the side of the road with a brand new flat tire (by a company that already recalled them in for defects) and having to endure other drivers stopping by just to say: "Hey, I don't have flat tires. Stop whining". -
Vista is slow compared to XP when it comes to copying a large number of files. Sometimes it spend more time just to calculate the time it takes to copy, than to actually copy them !! that’s ridicules
. However, generally it works at an acceptable level.
WOW!7 pages long, I don’t know whether the original poster has found a solution by now (I didn’t go through all the pages) , but if you haven’t then here are some suggestions: copy back in smaller chunks (like 10GB at a time), and try copying everything in to a a newly created folder instead of copying them on to the root of the drive, later you can move (moving won’t take time). Also disable UAC and whatever Virus guards you might have while copying.
-
And, movies and song mixing is perfectly fine on Linux. -
-
Well, i was able to transfer my old laptop files but with lot of difficulty and i had to transfer in smaller chunks.
Thanks for the concern man....although i am still using Vista... but i am boycotting all microsoft programs..
I am using Mozilla products such as firefox, sunbird and thunderbird. I think mozilla is really doing a great job.
For songs ...of course iTunes.
Also, My Office 2007 student edition free trial has expired but no worries..i ll try openoffice. -
I think your problem is the OS ... have you tried upgrading to the latest version of MS-DOS?
Here's a video to help you with upgrade ... http://whatthecrap.wordpress.com/2007/09/20/ms-dos-upgrade-rap/ -
If Vista still gives you problems. Might as well try Linux if you are up to the task and do not mind hands on work with the OS.
-
I use all the stuff you've listed [instead of their MS counterpart; i.e., IE, WMP, MS Office], except for SunBird.
Anyway, the fact that some PC companies still offer XP, and the fact that some people still demand XP [some would even buy a system with XP instead of Vista, even if the two are priced equally], just shows that Vista still isn't for everyone. I'm not going to say anything against Vista because the one and only time I got to use it [it was on my cousin's new laptop], I was too distracted with all the Aero prettiness and never really got to see how it performed. LOL.
Eventually, all hardware and software will work with Vista, all systems will be fast enough to run Vista smoothly, etc. But right now, it's just not for everyone [yet], at least that's the impression I'm getting.
Vista just sucks...accept it
