This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Just curious--if I were too lazy to zap a 32-bit installation of Vista, how much address space would it reserve for the kernel? This is, of course, only an issue when you put in 4GB of RAM, because it stretches the entire space of our friend unsigned int.

    IIRC you tend to have some where between 3-4gb available, like 3.4 or 3.6. Depending on the hardware you have. Friend of mine has a 1gb video card, which ate 1gb of the address space...
