The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Vista on Vostro 1400 + external HDD

    got my vostro 1400 recently....

    i find that when connecting my external HDD via USB, the data transfer to be quite slow. I guess the vostro USB is version 2.

    Its slower than my old p4 which has a 1.1 usb running thru a hub (with 2 more devices connecting to it)....

    anybody knows of any causes ?

    there is a fix (software update) for this that you need to download from microsoft .... its here somewhere on the forums or on engadget. i

    I remember reading about it.
