I've just purchased an (extremely) low-end laptop with the following specs:

    SR Celeron 530 1.73G
    512M DDR2 667Mhz
    80G 5400rpm HDD
    DVD RW
    Integrated graphics (Intel GMA950)
    Integrated sound (Intel HD Audio)
    14.1" WXGA TFT

I am an avid gamer and I'm into some serious gaming on my other laptop, which has a 8600M GT GPU and a C2D processor. However on this one, the most 'taxing' program I'm going to run will be Foxit Reader! Given that this laptop will be used for VERY light, system un-intensive work, will it become very unresponsive if I buy Vista (Home Basic) instead of XP? The laptop came with PC-DOS (it's a low-end Lenovo).

Definitely get XP unless you plan on getting more RAM.

I second this. It would run like a champ. Although XP will run well too. :)
