I know that Vista uses more system resources overall, and has less compatibility for certain drivers and such, but I wanted to know if there is a definite victor between the two for the specific purpose of gaming? I'm going to be ordering a new laptop soon, and it will come with Vista. I want to know if I should dualboot XP for my games, or if I will be able to run them okay on Vista.
Thanks.

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Games will run OK on Vista. Yes there is likely a small performance drop. Depends on the game, hardware and drivers too. So far on Vista I have played Portal, Tomb Raider Legends and Gears of War. All are running well enough. I have not had any major Vista exclusive troubles with them as far as I know.

nvidia still has some problems with SLI in vista. I also noticed a lower 3dmark score with single vid card and SLI in vista. this is with the 174.74 drivers on my desktop. other than that vista has been ok with me.

short story...
Vista for better resilience to intrusion and trojans
XP for 5-7% better FRAPS sessions.
Really the only difference besides user preference. -
DirectX 10 is the future.
Thread closure expected soon... -
I think we had 3 or 4 of these within 2 hours.

I thought I'd reply before this thread gets lost in the pages of history....
In my honest opinion really, there isn't much if any performance difference between vista and xp. As others have said here countless times before, vista is newer, and more future proof, and it's only getting better.
Since vista is coming with your laptop, I'd just stick with that, unless you're running old games that absolutely wont run in vista. -
Since your laptop is coming with Vista, try it; if your programs run fine with it, keep it and don't look back. If they don't, don't spend time trying to fix Vista - just go out, buy XP, install it, and be happily playing your games.
