I want to upgrade to an OS that will allow me to take advantage of my 64bit CPU, but I don't want to get something that will keep bugs and compatability issues to a minimal.
I've been told that XP64 is kinda buggy, but at the same time I wouldn't expect Vista to be any more stable. A friend of mine is a CS major and had to do a paper on microsoft last semester. He said that microsoft's strategy for staying on top of the market is to rush their programs out before they have been adequetly tested and then just patch them up as consumers run into the bugs. My friend said that it's best to wait a while for them to patch it up before placing your money on a new microsoft product.
Anyone have any advice?

x64 isn't buggy. It just doesn't have as many older drivers available as XP does, so some hardware won't work. But the OS itself is pretty solid.
Vista or XP64, which do you think will have more bugs?
