Let me start off by saying I'm by no means a computer expert, but I've found this great hack from a reputable source. I hope this helps.![]()
There are internet standards where your browser is restricted to downloading only two files at a time from any server. By tweaking hidden registry values, you can modify it to download more than just two files.
1) click start, type regedit in search box and press enter
2) navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
3) right-click in an open space and create a new DWORD key
4) type MaxConnectionsPerServer as the name of the new DWORD key
5) right-click this key and select modify
6) set the base to decimal and enter a value greater than 2. i used 15 as my value. press ok when you're done.
7) create another new DWORD key and type MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server as the name
8) right-click this key and select modify
9) set the base to decimal and enter the new value. use the same value as the first key. click ok when finished.
10) exit the registry editor and reboot
If you feel like undoing this tweak just go back in the registry editor and delete the keys that were created and reboot.

It's even easier is to use firefox
But yes, that is a good tip for those who use IE. Thanks for posting! -
There is a similar tweak like this for Firefox.
Nice! -
Cool information.
Thanks for posting.
So can I assume there's something similar to this for XP? -
Might be the same thing thibault since a lot of Vista tweaks work in XP.

Its been around and works in every version of Windows since IE4, I believe. Definetly works in XP. And it works very well. Be conservative with your max connections, however. Some servers wont accept too many connections, evidenced with missing page elements. A broken picture here and there, for instance. 10 or 12 is usually good most everywhere. Getting up into the 20's can start to produce problems at some sites, but generally very few. Get into the 30's and 40's or even higher can be problematic at many sites - becoming pretty much unusable.

First disable the phishing filter - this improves the browsing speed considerably.

thanks for the info tranquility, and coolguy

I might try this later on, so Im saving this page with a reply.

That's why we need to be conservative. I'm running Opera right now, set to 16. It's only when it's jumped up high that it becomes a problem. "usually good most anywhere" means "it's rare to run into a problem."
I mentioned being conservative because I presume it would be as natural to most everyone as was for me to say: "Well if 10 is good, why not 100."100 isn't so good at all. End up looking at pretty much nothing.

The server seems to be overloaded. Error messages are being reported.
