I have just installed windows Vista Ultamite on my laptop (Clevo M570u) and everything's been great except, for a reason I do not know, Vista is not egistering that I have a DVD-RW. I go into "computer" from the Start menu, and it only shows my C: drive. That's it. I read that another person was having the exact same problem here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=160496
I've tried most everything he's done and possess the precise same problem, but with a different brand of laptop. The solution was to manipulate the channeling of the IDEs through the bios, something I tried to do, but it told me that everything in that section was predetermined and to change it I'd have to contact a systems administrator. Please, help!

I had this same problem. It is not a problem caused by Vista or your laptop manufacturer, but it is a third-party issue. Here is how to resolve it. I had the same issue.
Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And delete "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" and then restart. (Do not delete if it ends in ".bak")
