really, are u sure its not a betta?
-
Is this legit?
-
MS is still testing SP1, so any releases may or may not be legit. I believe at one point Chaz got the files from a legit and trusted source...ask him about it.
-
So if I download this later today, will it interfere with the final/released SP1 updates?
-
waits for more responses

its not official vista SP1 its "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Hotfix Preview" clearly its more less beta sp1

No, it has NOT been released. This site has a "leaked" copy. I am a Microsoft Certified Solution Partner and as such will get notification the moment SP1 is released. I'll post a note ASAP when that happens.

No one can answer that for sure, except for possibly someone who is participating in the beta program that is running right now. Microsoft USUALLY has APPLICATION beta testers uninstall any beta before the install a real release. But I am not sure if that applies to Service Pack Beta's or not. So installing it now is a real crap shoot. That has been what has prevented ME from trying out one of these previews.
Now I HAVE installed the major updates that were recently released that will also be part of SP1. But I know that SP1 will be designed to handle the fact that some folks have already installed THOSE updates. But I am not sure how "friendly" SP1 will be with machines which have one of these leaked beta's installed.

hmmm.... "PREVIEW and information center" at the top kinda answers that.. dont you think? -
... is what wikipedia has to say about it.

The last official word was it is to be released Q1 of 2008.
-
Nope...this is the "near-final" release, meaning that it's it's the beta version with some new fixes. Microsoft still listed this as an update for my lappy while I was running Vista Manager, so I just installed it anyway. I'll post further if I'm having any issues.
